Democracy of Dance

− What happens to democracy when everything is sold out and cut down to pieces??? −

From June 5th to 16th 2014 we invite young people at the age between 16 and 30 to Berlin for a creative exchange project.

„Democracy of Dance“ will ask questions like these:

  • What does democracy mean for you?
  • What happens to democracy in times of Euro crisis and resistance?
  • What happens to democracy when we are confronted to worsening working conditions and where are our limits?
  • How and when do you experience democracy in your daily life?

During this exchange these and many other questions will be examined in a creative manner: we will investigate and discover the links between democracy and dance. Through a playfull and artistic approach we explore new possibilites of dealing with these topics.

This process will get its flow and rhythm by participative and reflective group dynamics.

Creative inputs will be taken from images, stories and traditions of dance from the invited countries Bulgaria, Greece, Spain and Germany. Is it possible to transform these images into a contemporary piece of art or even to gain a future perspective? For this experience we warmly invite six persons from each country.

The workshops we offer include

✗ contemporary dance + body movement

✗ music + percussion

✗ story telling + creative writing

✗ video + visual performance

The youth exchange takes place in Berlin-Kreuzberg and at Müggelsee (lake and forest area in the surroundings of Berlin). The exchange is funded by the EU Commission’s Youth in Action Programme and carried out by the non profit organisation ‚Theaterbündnis Blumenstrauß e.V.‘

Participants receive the acknowledged certificate ‚Youth Pass‘ at the end.

The programme includes:

  • 16 hours of workshop mentioned before given by professional coaches
  • general rehearsal and final performance.
  • several folkdance sessions for the whole group
  • accomodation in a nice hostel
  • a full catering service from breakfast, lunch to dinner is provided (mainly organic/bio and vegetarian)
  • three days excursion to Jugenddorf Müggelsee
  • refund of 70 percent of the travel expenses,
  • local transfer costs

You only need to pay for 30 percent of your travel costs by means of using the most economic travel option.

As a participant you are welcome if you:

  • are between 16 and 30 years old
  • are interested in the topic (previous knowledge is not necessary)
  • want to improve your English (workshop language is English, but translation can be offered)

Europäische Jugendbegegnung in Berlin

„Democracy of Dance“ ist ein künstlerisches Projekt, für das wir junge Menschen aus Bulgarien, Spanien, Griechenland und Deutschland nach Berlin einladen.

Tanz

Im Zentrum des Austauschs wird die Frage stehen, was mit der Demokratie geschieht, wenn Bildung, Soziales und Kultur komplett zusammengestrichen werden. So manch andere Frage wird sich auch Euch stellen − und die wollen wir hören und mit Euch erforschen, ob zwischen Tanz und Demokratie eine Verbindung besteht.

Kreative Anregung geben Bilder, Geschichten und Traditionen des Tanzes aus verschiedenen Ländern. Ist es denn möglich, aus etwas Vergangenem ein zeitgenössisches Kunstwerk zu gestalten oder gar eine Zukunftsperspektive zu gewinnen?

In verschiedenen Workshops unterrichten erfahrene, professionelle Trainer:

✗ Musik

✗ Story Telling + kreatives Schreiben

✗ Videokunst + Dokumentation

Die Begegnung findet in Berlin-Kreuzberg und am Müggelsee statt. „Democracy of Dance“ ist ein Projekt von Theaterbündnis Blumenstrauß e.V. und wird unterstützt durch das Programm Jugend in Aktion.

Das Programm umfasst:

  • Vollverpflegung (vegetarisch, weitestgehend bio),
  • Workshops: Zeitgenössischer Tanz, Theater, Musik, Volkstanz oder Video mit professionellen, erfahrenen Trainern
  • ein Rahmenprogramm mit thematischen Exkursionen und natürlich: Spaß!
  • die Unterbringung in einem Gästehaus
  • anerkanntes Zertifikat über die Teilnahme (Youth Pass)

Als Teilnehmer_in bringst Du mit:

  • Alter von 16 bis 30 Jahre
  • Interesse am Thema
  • einen Teilnehmer_innenbeitrag von 50 bis 120 Euro − je nach Selbsteinschätzung
  • 30 Prozent deiner Reisekosten, wenn Du nicht aus Berlin kommst
  • Englisch mindestens Grundkenntnisse
